Connecting the Classroom with Family and Community
How will you communicate with parents, e.g., to introduce yourself and your policies to them?
The beginning of the year is the best time to hand out my parent and guardian newsletter introducing myself to student families. Families will also receive a copy of my rules and policies which they and their child will need to read, sign and turn in to me the class period following the day it was handed out. I have an open door policy, a parent can come in any time to speak with me about comments or concerns they have regarding their child. E-mail is a really good way for parents to keep in contact with me.
How will you communicate with your students, e.g., introducing yourself and letting them know a little about what to expect in your classroom?
The first or second days of class I will read over the syllabus with the students, explaining my expectations for the class. My students should feel comfortable talking to me about any concerns or questions they have. They can talk to me pretty much anytime: before school, during passing, lunch periods, after school, and through email on the weekends.
How will you ensure that your classroom management system is supported by the school community?
I believe that it is extremely important to keep in close contact my Principal and other staff, to ensure that we are all on the same page. I am more than willing to be flexible on my management system as long as it is the best solution for the students and the school.
