How will students turn in work?
If and when I assign homework I will have the students hand it in to their class period's homework basket, located at the back of the room. Homework assignments will be due at the beginning of the class period, before students begin writing in their journals.
What will students do when they return from being absent?
When students are absent work does not just go away. Everything that I assign is important and needs to be completed by each student. I will have a file folder in the back of the room by the homework basket, within the file folder will be copies of all assignment sheets that need to be completed. If a student misses class, they can go back to the file cabinet and find their missing assignment under the date it was handed out. It may become pertinent to put homework assignments on my class website, so that a student always has access to it.
How will students distribute handouts?
If I need to have handouts distributed, I will select helpers at random to help my pass them out.
How will late work be handled?
Work is better turned in late than never. There is a deadline for me to enter grades for district report cards, and all work must be in by that time. The work that I assign has been carefully thought out and is not just busy work, with this in mind it is easy to see why students must proficiently complete all work. I realize that students have lives outside of school and there will be times when work just is not done by the deadline, but I must warn that getting work by its initial due date will make it a lot easier on the student. If a student is planning on missing a due date, they must contact me immediately to discuss another option.
Can students stay after school or in at lunch to finish assignments or do work?
I could not be happier to have students come in before school, during lunch, or after school in order to finish assignments and accomplish any other work they need to in order to succeed in my class.
